Does it cost money to download games for the Nintedo DS?

I Know the PS3 is way more better then the nintendo ds but im sure my chances of getting a nintendo ds is better then getting a ps3, so is the nintendo ds pretty excellent, with the graphics and the games and sound and stuff? Is it worth the money? And about how many different games as today can i get or download for it? And where is the cheapest place to get one?
